Michael Laby, CEO
Michael brings over three and a half decades of experience in the moving and storage industry to spearheading A-1 First Class’ ongoing expansions and evolution. As President, he oversees the company’s operation and continues to meet regularly with high-value clients. He began his career working in the family business in the late 1960’s and joined the company on a permanent basis after graduating SUNY Stony Brook. Michael has led sales and operations teams that have successfully managed projects for the NYC Board of Elections as well as many Fortune 500 companies. Having completed courses in claims, management, safety issues and logistics, Michael earned accreditation as one of the first Certified Moving Consultants in New York City. He is married with three sons, two of whom are members of A-1 First Class’ management team.

Matt Schwartzberg, President
Matt joined A-1 First Class in 1992, and has been a vital ingredient in the company’s growth. He is responsible for leading sales and marketing efforts, including growing the business through its relationship with Atlas Van Lines as well as building and maintaining the company’s client base in the New York Metro region. A graduate of Hofstra University, with a degree in Business Management, Matt is active in the Hofstra Alumni Association and Pride Club, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Long Island and the Get Together Foundation. Matt is married and has three children.

Lawrence J. Laby, CPA, Chief Operating Officers
Lawrence oversees the company’s operational divisions, including finance, accounting, customer service, and local scheduling and dispatching. He works directly with, and trains each of the division managers to ensure optimal efficiency and, as a result, each move the company undertakes runs smoothly. After graduating from Pennsylvania State University in 1998 with a degree in Accounting, he worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, where he was charged with auditing clients’ financial statements. During his employment there, he became a Certified Public Accountant. Lawrence has been able to bring the "big company" structure and organization to A-1 First Class while growing the level of personal service it gives its customers. Lawrence was married in the Spring of 2005 and has one child.

Darin Laby, Interstate Operations Director
After graduating from the University of Michigan in 2000 with a BA in Economics, Darin was hired by New Jersey-based AirShares Elite, a start-up provider of private aircraft and pilot services to the general aviation community. As a Certified Flight Instructor, he served as Director of Flight Training & Maintenance, and was responsible for aircraft fleet operations and the development of pilot qualification standards. In September of 2003, Mr. Laby joined A-1 First Class as Interstate Operations Director, and was charged with managing the growth of the interstate household moving division. He is currently responsible for overseeing the general operation of the company’s interstate moving division, and acts as liaison to their national interstate partner, Atlas Van Lines. Darin continues to work with Atlas Van Lines to ensure the strength and growth of A-1 First Class’ interstate operations in the New York market. Darin is married, with one child.
